Kids heading for PAL Camp are in for the time of their lives. If only they can get there....

PAL Camp -- where six to seven weeks of daily programs impact disadvantaged children from NE Washington, DC. The goal is to help them improve academically and teach them how to care for a wide variety of pets. While the kids learn how to care for the animals, the basic premise of what they learn is all about respect and responsibility.

The curriculum meets National Science Foundation science standards and DC Public School literacy standards. It is designed to be interactive and fun and it’s all under the guidance of a certified teacher (our own Camp Director) and a caring staff. In exchange, the animals reward the youngsters with a potent combination of unconditional love and contact comfort. A simple hug can be very meaningful to a disadvantaged child.

Because PAL operates on a limited budget, it purchases as few supplies and equipment necessary to get by, plus our staff often makes do with used or old equipment, or worse yet, learns to do without. There are many items that would make a tremendous difference in allowing PAL to achieve more of its mission during the year ahead.

~$15 - Junior Explorer sun hats to use during field trips
~$250 - 5-megapixel cameras so the students can record data during field trips.
~$500 - Repaint the animal room and install reliable shelving.
